Woody 1: A Minimalist Log Holder for Contemporary Design Settings

Enhancing the Beauty of Firewood with Geometric Simplicity

Firewood is often dirty and cannot be left in contact with the ground. It is also heavy and requires mobility both indoors and outdoors. To address these challenges, Kilian O'Sullivan chose a circular form for Woody 1 and found a solution to raise it off the ground while ensuring stability. Instead of adding feet to the structure, a right angle was placed within the circle, maintaining the clean transparency of the design. The result is a log holder that weighs only 3kg, allowing for easy transportation. Wind tunnel tests have also confirmed its high aerodynamic ratings, making it one of the fastest log holders available.

As log stoves become more common in contemporary settings, Woody 1 is proposed in galvanized steel, as well as black, white, or pink lacquer, to highlight the surrounding environment. The combination of rustic wood and refined steel structure brings visual clarity to the wood, creating an aesthetically surprising solution.

Woody 1 has a diameter of 60cm and a depth of 30cm, with a steel wire thickness of 10mm. Despite its steel construction, it weighs only 3kg, making it easily portable even when loaded with firewood.

Designed by Kilian O'Sullivan, Woody 1 is intended for both indoor and outdoor use. Its simplicity allows for intuitive operation without the need for an operating manual.

In January 2013, the first steel log holder, Woodman 1, was showcased at NOW-Design à Vivre in Paris. Its success led to the creation of several other log holders, including Woody 1, which were exhibited at the ICFF design show in New York in May 2013.

With its minimalist clarity and lightness, Woody 1 transforms the stacking of firewood into an interior design enhancement. Its eye-catching form and color options make it a perfect addition to contemporary design settings, adding beauty and simplicity to those long winter nights.

Woody 1 was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
